    was just a tad before my time, but of course I knew of him, & that he paved the way for a host of comedians (& others with an interest in freedom of speech) who came later.

    I stumbled across a fascinating documentary on him on youtube. I don't remember ever hearing about this documentary before--Swear to Tell the Truth, narrated by Robert DeNiro. 11 segments of about 10 minutes each, well worth watching IMO.
