Superstar QBs demand so much of your cap that it is hard to field a complete team. Guys like Peyton Manning, Bret Favre, Dan Marino, John Elway etc are great to have on your team but I would rather have a more balanced team that is good all the way around, like we have now. I want us to be the team that dominates for years not the team that sneaks in the playoffs every year on the arm of an elite QB and little else.

The irony here is that the Colts, Packers, Dolphins and Broncos under said QB's have dominated for years with said QB's. You shouldnt undervalue what it takes to get to the playoffs continually. What weve done the last 3 years is quite remarkable. If/When Foxy leaves it could be along time till we see that again (2 NFCC games in 3 years). These could be the best Panther years EVER.

But yeah, QB's can cripple teams. But the Colts seems to bo doing just fine all the same. And when you look at what we did in 03 with Jake on the cheap, we still had a ton invested on our DL. Maybe its a pick your poison deal. Weve got alot of high draft picks and hefty salaries on our D.
Had we a coach that believed in getting by with less on the Dline maybe we could afford that high profile QB.

I wonder what the correlation is between Offensive and Defensive minded coaches and the way they spend against the cap. One might think that they'd spend more on O thinking they can do something with the D. Maybe some get carried away building their D.
