Connery was offered Gandalf and refused. At least that is what the trivia question on the screen at Phillips Place before the movie said.

What I read said he turned down both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings because he did not like to play roles when he did not understand the story but after seeing the success of those two films accepted LEG without understanding the story for it either. Of course it had very little story to begin with so I guess it works.

I figured that out last night. I wonder why I thought he'd accepted it?

This should come as no surprise, really--I mean, very rarely will a comic-book adaptation do any justice to the original (or be any good). So, you have to take with a grain of salt and just be entertained by the cheesiness.

Unless, of course, it's Constantine (the Hellblazer movie). But then, I might be a little biased since I'm a huge fan of the Hellblazer comics and know that the character of John Constantine was written with Sting in mind.

Was LEG from a comic book? I liked Spiderman and the Xmen movies.

LXG was a title put out by America's Best Comics (A DC imprint) back in 1999. Its creator is a guy named Alan Moore (fansite here -- very good fansite, I might add).

But yes, the movie's from a comic. :)

(Be interesting to see if they do The Watchmen--I could see Christopher Walken doing a pretty good job as The Comedian)

I would be very interested in a Watchmen movie. That could be really interesting... if done right.
