not owning one doesn't = not having watched one. I have, and although I didn't attempt to watch it sideways or from different rooms, I did view it from approximately the 45-degree angle you mentioned. Couch was directly in front; love seat on one side and chair on the other were the aforementioned 45 degrees. It was a 50-inch dlp and I was sitting about 12 feet away. Picture wasn't really crappy at all. Does your plasma have a better picture? I'm sure it does. Is the difference negligible? I'm sure it is.

I, too, am glad we've come to this understanding. :conehead:

In some instances I prefer my gf's dlp to my plasma, mostly because it has full 1080i definition. My picture definitely pops more and is initially more impressive. My next tv will be 1080p plasma or better, but you're doing just fine if you get a dlp (unless you can see the rainbows.)

None of the technologies is perfect and the solution for you depends on a lot of factors. DLP provides a fine first entry into HD though, unless for some reason your chair has to be positioned on the side of your tv.

I finally broke down and went LCD today. My local sears was suppose to have a Proscan on sale for $499 but their supply never came in so they replaced it with a Sony Bravia for the same price.I Couldn't pass on that deal.
Consumer reports rates the Samsung and Sony almost even.

I stood out at the sears for 30 minutes debating on whether to buy the samsung or sony. They were sitting there side by side with the same channel playing. I really couldn't deal a lot of difference in the picture. I finally chose the sony because it was $100 bucks cheaper. When I got home and done a little research on them I found that sony and samsung merged in 2004 and built a plant to produce the new lcd TV's to compete with the LG brand. I guess that's why they looked so much alike. I've owned my current Sony flat screen for years and have had great service out of it.

I bought a 32 inch one today at Office Depot which is 2 blocks away. Got a hell of a deal on a floor model that had a missing remote. Took me about 30 minutes to take it back and buy one in the box :22: Brought the other one home with a 12 pack of beer and had some change left from 600. It lights up the bedroom pretty good and my bedroom is very big. I am happy with it and didn't have to fight no crowds.
