My Samsung's LCD's picture quality is 10x better than the year and a half old Toshiba plasma at our office. I don't know if there is something wrong with the specific set but it's not even close. I tried several reccomended configurations for the particular model and it's just not that sharp and the blacks aren't deep.

A high end plasma might beat out a high end LCD, but I don't think you can say anything about one vs the other without reference to specific models.

Very helpful thread. Wanted a 50+inch LCD with 1080. Budget restraints turned that into a Panasonic 50" plasma with 720.

I got a 32" LCD Sanyo two months ago. After scouting both the LCD and Plasmas, in both pixels, in all brands, for a couple of months, I opted for the 720(780?) pixels. I couldn't see justifying the cost difference between the two. The new TV with DirecTV(and new glasses) has increased my viewing pleasure 10X, exponentially even.
FWIW, the TV seems clearer in my living room than it(they) do in the store.

No, that's cool, I did. My little regular 21" rabbitt ears tv even looked good with the new glasses. But the 32" flatscreen LCD, man!
