anything i should worry about, like my vision continuing to get worse? my main reason for getting it is my contacts don't help my astigmatism..which isn't THAT bad but bad enough in one eye to where i need a toric contact lens. i hate that thing, my eye never seems to adjust. the eye without the toric has some astigmatism as well, but not bad enough to warrant a toric lens. i just think my eyes will be a lot more comfortable after surgery..i get headaches.

I'd be interested to hear more about this, too. My eyes are definitely deteriorating with age. Main problems was always astigmatism, but now I have nearsightedness too. I've tried contacts, but had too many allergy problems that irritated my eyes to make that practical. Glasses are ok. But it sure would be nice not to need them. And they're expensive to replace.

Anyone done the surgery? Pros? Cons? Expense?

I had it done at Carolina Eye Associates over off Independence a few years ago. Doctor Selkin did mine but he does not work there any more. It has been over three years and my eyesight has not deteriorated from 20/20. The only warning I have is to be sure you have some place dark to go after the pain drops wear off. My eyes burned pretty bad for a few hours and any sunlight is a killer. My wife drove me home and I had to keep my eyes closed. It was a rainy day but I still had to put a jacket over my head because it was too bright even with my eyes closed. Some people say it does not hurt at all but it did hurt me when the drops wore off.

I had a little bit of starburst effect at night like with oncoming headlights but it cleared up in a few months. I would definately do it again.

I paid about $400 per eye but I did get talked into buying "tear plugs" which cost about as much as the lasik.

I plan to do it next year. You should wait until your eyes stop getting worse and then do it. I'm at a good age and look forward to no more contacts.:bananalam

$400 each sounds pretty cheap. Is that the norm now or did you have some insurance coverage?

It was a special they were running at the time. I do not know if you can still get it that cheap.

Did it back in like 1998. No regrets.

Had star-burting effect at night for about 3-5 months, and it either cleared up or I just didn't notice it anymore--I'll have to check that tonight.

No pain for me. No drying of the eyes, or even the need for pain drops--if they gave them to me, I never used anything on them after I left the office the day of the correction.

I loved it then, still do today. Best part for me was the price--I had it written into my TV contract at the time, that the station pay for it. :woohoo:

I guess everyone is different but my eyes burned pretty bad for about three or four hours after the surgery. It has worked out great for me other than that though.

I had a great experience back in 98 also. my vision was 20/1000 and horrible astigmatism. i had been wearing toric lenses for years. the surgery was great except the valium kept making me fall asleep. after surgery, the pain drops were very necessary, i found that out after i recovered from the valium. the surgery changed the shape of my eye so much that my eyelids took months to reshape, therefore i had dry eyes....drop of something over the counter solved it..........and i am still 20/20 and 20/15.........would definetly do it again. i had it done in San Diego by the doc who did the FDA trials....i was lucky to get an appt. they said i would probably need reading glasses when i got older but that hasnt happened yet.
