How long should I be doing the elliptical? I am working up a good sweat at 20 minutes but I could probably go a little longer without hurting myself.

I do the weights first. My heart rate is elevated when I get on the elliptical so it does not take much time if any to reach my target.

My docs recommended 30 minutes of mild to moderate cardio. Remember, the cardio -- not the weight training -- is what burns fat.

I guess it's a personal preference, but I always lift after I do my half hour on the elliptical. Some people believe lifting 'cold' makes you susceptible to muscle damage.

As far as your hunger goes, increase your protein intake. Protein takes longer to break down than carbs and simple sugars, so it curbs your appetite longer.

I am going light on the weights and making the cardio the main part of my work out. That is why I do it last. I am pretty spent after the cardio so I would not want to do the weights.

After Thanksgiving I am going to try harder on my diet.

Stuff your self with fiber. Stays in your guts a long time keeps you from feeling hungry.

Good article. Thanks, Sly. I have an exercise bike that I use during the winter months. Maybe I'll tape something fun to watch on TV and exercise while I watch. If you ride for almost an hour at a medium intensity, you can burn a lot of fat, and if you have something engaging to watch while you ride, you can ride longer.

I'll give it a shot, anyway.

That's an excellent plan, Star. You should get great results with that!
