You're correct, I phrased that wrongly, as the signing bonus amount is limited but teams can choose to guarantee any percentage of the contract (~$1.5 million). He could also play a or two year in the CFL and then come back, like Duron Carter.

 

CFL isn't a reasonable option. Team salary cap there is roughly $5 million/team and QBs get over 10% of that. Top player at other positions are only in the 100 K neighborhood. He'd be best served to take the best guarantee he can get and try to arrange an early renegotiation.

 

It's moot.

Seeing Jerry Richardson sitting in that chair on draft day reminded me we're staying away from any player who even got in a fight with their mother.

I realize he was on the pro side for a lot of his time there, and they had starters some years so why invest at the position, but we don't.

edit to add: Diehl apparently was drafted as a guard but played T for them I am not sure how much, as I didn't want to delve into game by game, season by season, starting lineups.

 

Aside from the fact Gettleman was the Director of Pro scouting for the Giants, that's some good research.

If the point you're making is that the Giants never drafted OL then the corollary is that they used Free Agency to build their O-Line....which is the area Gettleman managed.
