Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by sds70, Dec 3, 2002.

If given the chance, should the Panthers go after Kurt Warner?

I was listening to WFNZ's COUNTDOWN TO MNF Show tonight and during the show, they brought up the fact that Kurt Warner has an option clause in his contract that will pay him $6 million next season if the Rams choose to renew it. Gary (Williams) & Mike (Solarte) were discussing the possibility that the Rams MIGHT try to save some money and let him go before they have to pay the option next year. Do you think the Panthers S-H-O-U-L-D try to make a run at him  ? Yeah, he's struggled this year with a bumb finger on his throwing hand, but he's only 32 and he would still be an improvement over Rodney Peete (too old) and Randy Fersani (a guy who knows one play in the playbook, the QB draw   . . .) . Considering all of the off the field problems this team has had this year, having him on the roster would be a major plus (devout Christian, family man angle should play well here in a conservative city like CLT, wouldn't you think ;) ? ? ). Besides, it would be pretty cool to have the lady who played Alice the Maid on THE BRADY BUNCH living in Charlotte ;) :D  !!!!!!!!

I think he should not allow his wife to wear stuff like that in public. :D

The hand scares me now... I'd have to say no.

I voted no, but after thinking about it, why the hell not?
If he can pass the physical (hand)
He's a proven winner, He's a good locker room guy, he's staright as arrow off the field.

Bring him in and grab a guy like Boller in round three.

Get a FA WR and draft a WR round 1 to give him weapons.

Question is what does he cost us? If we are thinking our #1 pick - I say hell no. Not sure a second either - but that I would consider. He will probably cost too much IMO.

I wouldn't give a high pick - he's getting old, and has that bum hand that he's not been honest about.

    He's been HORRIBLE this year.

I'd sign him FA with a manageable bonus. I'd give up our 4ths. Too many questions marks, too much hype. And his throws have looked like a girl.

It'd be pretty cool if we could get him and he was a stud, though. Grab him and Price FA - we just got pretty damn good - even if Warner is 75% of what he had been.

We need a fucking QB, that's for sure. I'd rather have Leftwich or Palmer. Am I insane?

I was going with the assumption that if they didn't honor the clause ($6.0M) that he would be a FA. I totally agree I don't wanna give up a high pick for him.

And b/c of his performance this year, I don't think they'll GET a high pick.

I'd sign him FA, and still draft a young QB. And FA ONLY if it's not a cap killer. That's the OLD way of doing things in Panther Land.

  8. He's what 32 and can't stay healthy? Behind our OL he'll be on IR by week 6. He doesn't have falk behind him and bruce and holt on the outide either. IMO, money is better spent getting better faster receivers. I'm beginng to think it's not the qb in st louis, it's the system.

Under those assumptions - he is definately the top FA QB who would be out there. I think he could help us at the right price. A QB that has won a Super Bowl is valuable IMO.

i do expect the rams to release him, or at the very least restructure his contract with some sort paycut. warner's looking like damaged goods though. he had all offseason to get his hand back into game shape and it still looked like it was bothering him at the start of the season. now he's had a couple more hand injuries. the guy is not well and hasn't looked 100% at any point this season. we pick him up, knowing this, and were looking at another chuck smith scenario in my opinion.
