    Kobe is a great player

in my mind he's the best in the NBA right now, but he ain't Michael Jordan

I just think it's funny how people love to rip him - it seems like his biggest offense is he plays in the ---- N B A

kobe got a 3 year learning curve on Jordan. the bulls sucked early in his career when he was scoring all those points. he had a bunch of scrubs..longley,buschler,wennington,king,...in an era when the big man was dominant. Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwan(sp)Mourning,shaq,Mutombo...

never had a true big man

BTW his career of 63 came in a D-O/T game against the world champ Celtics in the playoffs...not some shit regular season game vs toronto

for the record that's not jordan's career high. and his 63 was on 22-41 shooting with 10 extra minutes to do it in. oh, and chicago lost.

anyway, my point in regards to jordan is that i believe it took him proving his own individual ability to score to set up his legacy. afterall, scottie pippen was right there with him thru it all. nobody was sure what to make of pippen -- is he an all-time great? is he just a hanger-on? his star has faded as the years go by. if he'd had a few years of sick scoring on his own, i believe he'd be considered one of the greats.

I don't dislike Kobe anymore than any other arrogant pro athlete. I don't care that he cheated on his wife, that is between his wife and him. This isn't about Wilt or Jordan either.

The guy is a very good player. I just don't see it being a big deal because of the number of times he shot and the lack of defense that is played in the current NBA. I am more impressed that he hit 18 0f 20 FTs. Fuckers can't shoot FTs anymore.

well that's a ptretty stupid comment

How exactly is someone supposed to score 80 points without shooting the ball 40 times?

now if he did it shooting 30% it would be pretty weak - but when you shoot 60% from the field and single handedly bring your team back from 18 points down in the 3rd quarter to win going away that is nothing but impressive.

No that's not a stupid comment but you may be a bit dim for not understanding you just agreed with me. I figure there are 3 key components that lead to an 81 point game. A good offensive player, many FG attempts and pathetic defense. Add in the fact that Kobe was on that night and you get 81. Toronto should be embarrassed for knocking him on his ass after he hit 50.

How many times this year will a player have 40 something FG attempts and 20FT attempts? Not many I'm guessing. I could be wrong, I don't watch much NBA anymore.

Pippen was a great player. The years that Jordan sat out in the 90's he pretty much carried the team to the playoffs, but Kobe is no Jordan. He already got his championships and he is in his 8th or 9th year in the league, but those Bulls team, especially the second set of the three titles was just a solid team all around with Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. Will Purdue is still the greatest :trophy:

yeah, 20 ft attempts sorta implies toronto wasn't being "hands-off" with their defense on him. and 47 fga's is a large number, but look at any guy who scores 50 or so and you'll see probably around 35 fga's. if he's particularly hot, it might be closer to 30.

jordan's 69 points came on 23 of 37 fgs and 21 of 23 ft's in 50 minutes (ot game vs cleveland). that's 62% fg% and 91% ft%. pretty similar numbers to kobe. only it's 15% fewer points in 10% more playing time.

jordan's performance was impressive. so was kobe's.
