well we shoulda won the first Tampa game but not the 2nd ... that's 3-3

    >> the 3-4 D gives us major problems on O

okay. a little football for dummies, anyone? why is that? i heard the commentators comment on that in the Pittsburg game but didn't understand why it's such a problem for us and not others. what do we need to do in order to have a chance against ATL?

Well, because our offensive linemen are usually looking at their blocking assignment, but in the 3-4 they are often overloaded or shifted to a quicker Linebacker and with out facing this defense more than 2-3 times a year it can present problems. Especially for a team that suffers on Offense as badly as we do. The way to beat the 3-4 has been exploited by Oakland and New England. Throw and produce on 1st down. This prevents the 3-4 from bum rushing the offensive line on 2nd and 3rd down. We suck offensively, so we do not produce well on first down, causing our offensive line to crumble under the rush on 2nd and 3rd down. Pittsburgh and Atlanta both 3-4 defenses are great, but when they are beat they are beat by teams that throw accurately on first down. Who better than Brady and Gannon to exploit the 3-4. Both beat the shit out of Pittsburgh.

with a 40 defense, the o linemen have their guys pretty much in front of them or no more than the gap on either side of them, it's easier to block.

In a 3-4, you still rush 4 guys most of the time, but with the blocking scheme we have (slide or zone blocking) the confusion comes in on the zone blitz. You line up prepared to block the guy in front or on the side of you and all of a sudden, he's not there. He's down field in coverage. Meanwhile, you have to adjust for a CB blitzing from the outside (going wider than you normally would openning up a gap for the other D linemen or a LB) or a LB and NG or a LB and a DE both trying to plow through the same gap creating an overload on your blocking. Often times teams don't show the blitz until late tipping their hand so there can be a limited, less effective reaction to it or worse, delay the blitz where there's no time to adjust.

the falcons made us look foolish, yet CLEV, SEA and CHI beat them and i'm thinking that none of these teams are offensive juggernauts. the ravens also put 31 points on the steelers. why can these pretty ho-hum teams play well against the 3-4 and we cannot?

Cleveland is a playoff team and the have a good qb with great WRs.

Seattle and Chicago??? Any given Sunday.

Houston beat Pittsburgh in the most lopsided victory I have ever seen. It happens. Defense can keep you in a game but it can't always but the points on the board.

By the way Peete threw 3 ints. in the Tampa game. The game was tied 10-10 at half time Tampa only had 50 more yards total offense. We were in that game, we just turned the ball over 3 times more than Tampa.
