I apologize if any of this has been discussed:

23:04 PT: The Gaston Gazette reports Carolina Panthers WR/KR Steve Smith is working with the first-string offense during practices because WRs Patrick Jeffers and Isaac Byrd have both been out nursing injuries.

22:12 PT: Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers rookie QB Randy Fasani has been improving throughout the summer school sessions. Fasani has made smart decisions and has demonstrated a strong arm. Head Coach John Fox said "he has made good progress."

13:01 PT: The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers OT Todd Steussie did not attend Monday's training camp. Head coach John Fox cited personal obligations.

Note: I heard on the radio that Lamar Smith was also excused for personal obligations.

13:01 PT: Updating ongoing reports, the Gaston Gazette reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke is progressing and did some light throwing after practice Monday. Although, Weinke will not throw during this week's practice. Head coach John Fox said Weinke is day-to-day and he might do some throwing in the final days of practice next week.

13:00 PT: The Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers DE Jay Williams was at Monday's practice after reaching an agreement to possibly restructuring his contract after the team gets to training camp. In addition, Williams was assured of the opportunity to compete for playing time.

As long as one of those guys is solid and ready to go with Moose and Smith, we should be ok in our new offense.

Fasani will probably be our starter by mid season, if the same 3 guys that are there now are there mid season. I do hope that injury to other players does not force him to start the beginning of the season.

Actually, I thought I did well. I simply stated an opinion about one single player without making any direct slams on another. :D

I wouldn't directly call it a slam, but I also wouldn't put the slightest bit of validity into that thought either. I don't see that as plausible unless something very extreme happens.

    irony...

In an amazing twist of irony, I heard that the Panthers were considering changing Fasani's jersey number to #32 because they think he's twice as good a Weinke but NFL rules wouldn't allow that so now they are thinking about reverse physcology and going to give him #8. #8 is must clearly be destined to be
franchise QB of the Panthers...   :hatpimp2: :behead: :naughty: :laugh1: :D

Would 3 consecutive games of 2-3 turnovers and overthrown balls be extreme enough?

Nah, all joking aside, I'm higher on Wienke's outlook than a few others that have passed through Charlotte. I will take a wait and see attitude. I'll admit the WCO was not his forte. Just for the record and clarity, my beef with the Winkster is not that he "is not capable" but more of a I just don't "think" he will.

Either way, its exciting to be a Panther Fan again, I love what Fox and his team are doing so far, compared to several years past.

well, hopefully our system won't be quite so dependant on 5 yd passes this year, and maybe, just maybe, defenses won't know exactly what we're going to do this year, ie; send 3 or 4 guys into the middle, all ending up about 5 yards from eachother, with donald hayes pretending to run a route down the field, but stopping after 10 yards and looking around. i hope the game slows down for weinke this year. it's got to be a great relief to him to have henning here now, and peete. fox is really giving walls props all over the place, his attitude could help lots also. such a different approach than seafart's. more like coach k treats people at duke. ( i hate duke, but i really admire how k relates to and treats the players there, it really brings out their best). hopefully this will all create a better learning atmosphere. imo weinke's got a much better chance of succeeding in the nfl now, don't know if he will, but it seems the situation exists for his odds to be greatest - unlike last year.

I dunno, I really hope he's soaking up the mental aspect of the game like a sponge these last few weeks, being injured and all. I gotta wonder how much he is missing out on by not throwing pretty much throughout the spring. He's SUPPOSED to be ready by training camp, if that doesn't pan out or if he suffers a setback after just getting back, it certainly opens the door for Peete or Fasani.
However, if Weinke is 100%, with no further injuries, I predict somewhat of a breakout year for him. Line is good, RB's look good, receiving corps is not too shabby; with time and more accuracy, the Weinkster could do quite well. Remember the game we won last year (and actually for a few games after that), people were marvelling at how accurate he was for a rookie? I think he still has that, but desperation and a shoulder injury forced him into some bad situations. I think he'll do fine, so long as hes relatively injury free.
