It seemed to me with every passing week last year that Jake was getting more and more careless with the ball

i know that the almighty stats would indicate that he's not throwing more than one pick a game on average BUT

was it just me or did he seem to get really lucky just about every game not to have two or three additional EASY turnovers? I think our opposition must have been in shock much of the time when he was just offering up the ball on a silver platter

Bull fucking shit. I'm not here to defend his play; but the reason was the Oline was fucked up for the season before the end of the first half of the first fucking game. Shuffled players around the next few weeks, start getting some continuity and bam Wahle gets hurt. He plays 1 armed a few weeks and then shuts it down for the season. We are back at square one and its December...

I guess its kind of a chicken or the egg kinda question. Was Jake playing bad regardless of the Oline or would he have played better if the Oline was 100%. We can argue till we're blue in the face but we'll never know because before the half of the first game, our season was starting down the shitter.

This year we should have the depth to weather an injury; last year we didn't. Bridges wasn't even on the damn roster till week two and what did he start 12 or 13 games?.

This is all I am saying. Let's not change for change's sake. He is a playmaker and has shown he can get the job done, especially if he is not relied on to win the game singlehanded. I am excited to see what he can do with a healed thumb and an effective running game.

probably not the best way to handle that.
But sure, there was more than just Jake and third down and I don't believe that Jake = 3rd down.

You add in OL problems, you add in drops, you add in a major downturn in the rushing yards, attempts, and TDs, and the blame added when you talk about firing an OC, and it's much harder to place blame on one thing, 3rd down or overall. But each of those things, and Jake, have to rise to the occasion ASAP.

I didn't see that as anything new. You could see that in game tapes from 03.

Kinda like the Giants game when Weinke should have had about 10 picked off?

I see that you just registered, so I'm going to suggest that you stop and ask someone who I am. That probably sounds arrogant to you, and I imagine from your attitude that you're going to come back with the generic "I don't give a fuck who you are" braggadocio, but it's just going to end up wasting more time. See, the point is that this argument has already been played out. I went to a rather annoying amount of trouble not just to say, but to actually prove statistically that Jake's performance was the biggest discrepancy between '05 and '06. I did prove that, so if you're actually interested in the subject, I suggest that you do a search and look it up. And if you're not interested in the actual subject but just flashing your johnson to see who's the biggest, that's pretty pointless too. Because in addition to knowing more than almost anyone here, I'm definitely considered the biggest dick.
Did you sleep through 2005 or were you perhaps a fan of the Toronto Argnoauts up 'til then? I ask because I would think that a Panthers fan would remember how our offensive line wasn't exactly deserving of Pro Bowl consideration in '05. In any case, you might be interested to know that Jake was sacked once every 15.5 pass attempts in '05 and once every 19.6 in '06. So unless I'm getting confused about basic math, I'm pretty sure that means Jake was under more pressure then.
Yes, that's exactly it, and it should have been obvious to anyone actually watching the games. Something about Delhomme was just off last year, especially on third downs and downfield passes. His accuracy, which has never been great, was just atrocious. I don't know if he was injured or what, but it was a constant issue.
No, we really can know, either by looking at the stats or by actually looking at the games again. I have them all burned to DVD if there's one that you want me to look at, but I'm pretty sure I recall them sufficiently.

Sometimes phenomena are a complex interconnection of causes and effects, and sometimes it's just Jake sucking giant balls on third down. This was the latter. Now let's do what I suggested and let sleeping dogs lie. This subject is going to come up so often this year that we'll all end up nauseous, so there's no point in getting a head start.
