i never thought of him as a real panther anyway and i didn't like having to cheer for him.

i think this lets jarrett know that he can't come in here and f'ing coast -- he's got to work his ass off and nobody's going to baby him along.

He was not responsible for either interception. Key's route in the Cincinnati game took him to the back of the endzone, as it was supposed to, because it was designed to clear out the safety and let Carter come underneath. Unfortunately the Bengals had Carter covered on the "in," and Jake stupidly threw it straight at Kevin Kaesviharn in the endzone. Keyshawn could do absolutely nothing about that.

Then in the Philadelphia game, I repeatedly explained that Sheppard took an outside technique on Key precisely because he was playing the fade. There is nothing Key could have done short of shoving Sheppard and drawing offensive pass interference (in retrospect, it would have helped us). That's a throw absolutely any QB should know not to throw. For God's sake, you learn that in high school. If the CB is looking in the backfield and playing the fade, you don't fucking throw the fade.


In any case, this release is utterly retarded. We can't just go out and spend the money on someone else, and now we're in a bad spot at WR. Jarrett has no experience and Carter is injury prone with a limited set of routes he can effectively run. This is dumb, dumb, dumb.

 

In effect, we fired Key so we could keep Colbert on the roster. I still think there is more to this firing than meets the eye, but I don't think anyone could argue that we are better off because of it. Who is going to be our #2? I don't think Carter is cut out for it. I hope Jarrett can really step it up, because I think he is our only hope at having a great second option.

 

I wonder how much Smitty's feelings toward Key played into this. I was pretty happy to have Key here, but I was not all that impressed with his play.

Somebody else brought it to my attention how much it looked like Smitty hated Key. Then I started to look at their interaction on the sidelines and it really did look like Smitty couldn't stand him and he was messing up our offensive chemistry.

I couldn't care less that we let him go.

 

Damn we went from being deep at WR to being one hamsting pull away from being totally fucked at WR, all before mini camp....

 

Key was fired up with the USC receiver that the Panthers drafted. He couldn't wiat to work with him. I know he thought about hanging it up after this last year and work the mike side, but you could tell when the Panthers Draft was over he was excited about this upcoming season. This will bite the Panthers!

 

you forgot to also mention how it was not Key's fault he dropped that pass in the Dallas game. the QB has absolutely no business throwing a pass to a wide open receiver in that situation. Key could not have been expected to catch the pass as the glare of his smile from being so wide open blinded him. i know it did me and i was a good 100 rows up. you learn in pop warner to avoid those throws.

you have no hope that Jarrett can be good enough?

so, since you have dismissed the theory that he didn't own up to his mistakes, what say you as the reason that he was released? obviously it wasn't for financial reasons. obviously they need to win yet cut what on paper was our 2nd best WR. hurney is not completely dumb and it is doubtful that he has lost his mind and has some mysterious false sense of security. there must have been a reason. so, what say you?

 

It'll help him get to the next team should he decide it's not time to hang up the cleets. I thought he did better than some during his draft coverage. Still work in progress but better than some.
