apparently, he will pitch if at all possible. if he can splint it up, he says he'll go.

still, what an idiot. perhaps there is some frustration in that clubhouse?

    Notes: Brown apologizes
    Right-hander has successful hand surgery
By Amy K. Nelson / Special to MLB.com

NEW YORK -- Just after he had successful surgery on his broken left hand, right-hander Kevin Brown faced the media before Sunday's game against Baltimore.
"First of all, I want to apologize to the team, the organization and the fans for putting them in this situation," Brown said, with his left hand in gauze and wrapped with a bandage. "And how this might affect the outcome of the season."

Brown punched a wall in the clubhouse in the middle of the sixth inning of Friday night's 3-1 loss to the Orioles. He broke two bones in his left hand, and had two pins placed in it during surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center on Sunday.

It is unknown when he will return, though manager Joe Torre said Saturday that the best-case scenario would be three weeks. Brown gave no timetable, saying the doctors will let him know.

The team is looking into its options about whether it can fine or discipline Brown. Published reports also have the Yankees looking into whether they can void the final year of his contract. He is due $15 million next season.

"Whatever actions they take, I'll handle and I'll take," Brown said.

Said general manager Brian Cashman: "We're reviewing our rights, seeing what rights we have. Then we'll make a determination."

Citing ineffectiveness and mounting injuries -- including getting hit in the right hand and twisting his knee during Friday night's game -- this season, Brown said he lost his temper.

"I made a mistake," Brown said. "I let my emotions take over me. If I could take it back, I would."

After spending seven weeks on the disabled list with a lower back strain and an intestinal parasite, Brown had been working to regain his strength. He is 2-4 since coming off the disabled list in late July, and is 10-4 with a 3.99 ERA overall.

Brown said he hadn't personally apologized to his teammates, but had planned to do so. When asked if he would give an apology to principal owner George Steinbrenner, or members of the front office, Brown said he would if he saw them, adding, "but they all deserve one."

I love the Yankees, but they have screwed up royally this year for not bringing up young pitchers. I loved the fact they let Rocket go, but they had to go sign a bunch of average veterans. Stupid.

They deserve to crash and burn.
