Moose was a 2nd round pick and Smith a 3rd. How did they not have skills coming in?

He has 2 years left on his rookie contract with salaries of $385,000 next year and $460,000 in 2007. I don't see him going anywhere, even if he's the 4th receiver. Drew Carter makes $385,000 next year as well, but 2006 is Carter's last year under his rookie contract.

It is hard for a franchise that has only been around for ten years to have a large number of home grown star receivers. We have had Moose and Smith that we drafted and groomed into stars. That is one every five years on average which is not bad.

    Moose:

Year one 25 catches for 407 yards and 1 TD
Year two 27 catches for 317 yards and 0 TD
Year three 68 catches for 941 yards and 6 TD

    Colbert:

Year one 47 catches 754 yards and 5 TD
Year two (15 games) 23 catches 271 yards 2 TDs.

Next season will be the key year for Colbert.

I don't care how much he costs... If he sucks he sucks. If he gets beat out of a job by other players, he WILL be cut. A cheap turd is still a turd.

Well, we won't just get rid of him. But he should have to fight to keep his starting position.

You won't get much better than sucks for that price on the free agent market. Like it or not, it's still a salary cap game and Colbert at that price is worth another season even as the 4th or even 5th option...imo.

I had to chuckle a little when I read the latest Proehl piece. Colbert was giving him credit for teaching him how to get open :satana:
