Suspended receiver Chris Bell was kicked off of the Penn State football team today after his latest brush with the law.

He is accused of attacking teammate Devon Still with a knife Monday night while the team was eating at training table in Pollock Dining Commons. He will have a preliminary hearing April 16 in Bellefonte.

Bell, 21, was being held in Centre County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond as of noon today.

He is facing misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment.

"Chris Bell, who had been previously suspended from team activities, is permanently removed from the team and will not be reconsidered to be a part of the team in the future," Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson said in a statement.

Lisa Powers, the university's director of public information, said Bell will be banned from Penn State's campus once he is released from jail.

"He's still considered a student, but because of the nature of the allegations -- brandishing a weapon -- the Office of Judicial Affairs will prohibit him from being on campus," she said.

Bell's previous suspension stemmed from his alleged role in an on-campus fight involving several football players at the student union building in October.

Bell, who would have been a junior this fall appeared in 12 games for the Nittany Lions last fall, catching seven passes for 143 yards.
