When you coach a college basketball game you can pretend to be an expert. I think it's a given they from top to bottom UNC is the most talented team in college basketball. They need to learn and I don't mind them losing a few games to help them grow as a team.

Dean Smith's philosophy was that his players were schooled and trained and drilled enough in practices that he didn't have to waste a time-out when things went awry during the game. Anybody with any knowledge of Roy Williams knows that he is a devout disciple of Coach Smith's approach to game-time situations. If you didn't know what William's approach to the situation in the Kentucky game, you just don't know 'real' Carolina basketball.

So you have coached a college basketball game? Good to know, my mistake, didn't realize.

I am not suggesting that everytime a team makes a run on you that a timeout needs to be taken. But when you are getting your ass handed to you, then it's time for a timeout, that's one of the reasons they are there. Sure UNC has a talented team, wouldn't say the most talented, but certainly one of them. They are also a very young team this year, so no matter how much coaching, practice, etc, they aren't going to see everything that's going on. It's the coaches job to coach the team during the game as well, but I guess you knew that, since they let a coach stand on the sidelines while the game is being played.

Actually Dean would have pulled everybody and sent in the scrubs for 3-5 minutes. I am sure you knew that, right?

No, but my post was started with the words "I think." Which shows, that while I'm not certain, I believe that he may not have called a timeout because these guys need to learn to play through the trouble. They are certainly talented enough to do it. If coaching this way makes them better in March, then I'm willing to lose in early December.

They will be better come March, no doubt about that, but certain coaching techniques can help that development progress as a faster pace, where some can hender as well. If they kids had all this practice and that's all that was needed, then how did they end up in that situation in the first place? According to your logic, they should have known better and prevented it from happening. Was a different team in the 2nd half, so I guess we can either guess Williams talked with them at halftime or maybe he didn't since the earlier practices were enough to get these talented kids through this moment in life.:willy_nilly:

Carolina teams have ALWAYS been known to make big runs coming into the second half when losing at halftime.....It's the way of "Dean"....did you not see it coming? Just how long have you been watching Carolina basketball anyway? I'm surprised that you call the Carolina coaching staff morons so soon after a National Championship. :lmao: at you.

Are you going to boycott Walmart sportswear sales, too?..... lol

12-0 Kentucky run to start the game.
Calhoun does finally call a time-out!
