Seifert deserves zero credit for anyone still on this team. I'll give him credit for Swann, Smith, and White on the defensive line. He had final say on who to get and continued the mistakes of the past, old guys, in free agency.

Scouting department remained pretty much intact since 1995. All draft successes and failures lie there. The final say on who to pick lies on the GM and coaches. Anytime there is a reach, like Rashard "crackhead" Anderson, that falls on the coach/GM. The draft strategy started to change Seifert's last year has continued the first two with Fox with excellent results.

You'd have been somewhat correct if you'd have said that our current scouting department was built in 1999 out of what was left when we went scrambling to find scouts and executives in 1998.

Y'all can project Seifert anger all day, the fact is he was still a very good coach when he had players. JR took players away, and the wins went away. We were so poorly talented, including the new OC Seifert had wanted instead of keeping Williamson, that I can't in good conscience (and having contact with, reporting on that 2001 team) put all the blame on Seifert for that season. Nor can I sit there and read that Seifert was the one pushing for White and Swann.

we will never be able to get a good read on seifert as a coach in carolina. he coached through the thickest of bad luck in the panther era- and he ended up drafting some great players.

Seifert was ok in the draft. He brought in Rucker and Jenkins along with some other average guys like Morgan, Grant and Steve Smith. he also had some big mistakes like Rashard Anderson and Chris Terry. His free agent signings were not quite as good but he did bring in Buckner, Mitchell and Stuessie. He had some bad misses too like Jimmy Hitchcock, Reggie White, Eric Swan, Chuck Smith, Jeff Lewis. The biggest problem I had with him was that he was unable to adapt. He was bent on re-creating the 49ers. He had to have a mobile QB so he forced Lewis into the starting lineup despite his doing nothing to earn the job. He wanted that scat back who can catch so he kept trying to get Timmay on the field when he should have cut his losses. He would not alter his game plan to allow for more running. That game where we were up on Washington 14-0 is a prime example. We kept throwing and got a turnover that lead to our loss.

Everyone still knocks Capers but he brought in some good players too. Minter and Moose are still starters for us. He signed some good free agents like Kevin Green, Eric Davis, Wesley Walls, Lamar Lathon etc. He blundered big time with Gilbert but that was not really worse than all the DL we tried under Seifert. Capers is putting together a winner in Houston now while Seifert is somewhere fishing.

Yeah, some of the commentators have already started lining up to kiss Capers ass!

Don't get me wrong, I wish him and Houston well...I love to see underdogs kicking people in the teeth:D

Capers is coaching Casserley's team. As long as his teams play by themselves and he can play with his notebook he'll be fine. If he were five years older he'd be on the porch with that notebook.
