there is a surgery--Kris Jenkins had it--I did not qualify for it (doctor said it wouldn't completely do the trick).

My doc mentioned the surgery option. Basically they systematically cut out the soft tissue in the back of your throat until it stops closing. Tonsils, epiglottis, soft palate, etc. He said it's extremely painful, and phase one only works about 60% of the time. Eventually, they'll remove enough tissue to solve the problem, but it can lead to other problems like a chronic sore throat.

The guy I knew seemed pretty happy with his results but I never really discussed it with him in detail. That must be a bad thing to have. I have had to adjust to getting by with a lot less sleep since the baby arrived so I can feel your pain a bit.

Reading through this makes me not as nervous to even go through the sleep anea testing. Doctor recommended me for one yesterday when I discussed getting off the Ambien to sleep. We're probably masking symptoms of sleep apnea with the medicine. My Dad was just diagnosed with it about 3 months ago. If I do have it, I hope I can used to having that thing strapped to my head. I'm VERY claustraphobic so not sure what it might do. Should hear back for the referral soon.

And yes, for those who stated in other threads that people needed to lose weight or they wouldn't have to worry about, I've lost some weight over the past year and will continue to do so. My Dad, however, is a tall guy with no weight problem.
