    Question about apnea -

Does it tend to happen to bigger guys? I don't know bastardo, but you other 3 aren't small, and Neither are reggie White or Kris Jenkins.

They use CPAPs for preemies. Ours didn;t need them, I think Bootay's did and alot of the kids in NICU had them.

Most of the people that I know that have apnea are big guys (myself included). I have seen tv shows about sleep issues and they showed small children with sleep apnea and these kids were not overweight. They were able to correct behavioral issues with a CPAP machine. My first sleep study revealed that I stopped breathing an average of 108 times an hour and I woke up 50 times an hour. My oxygen level dropped to less than 75%. I never remembered dreaming. I don't have as much energy as I had hoped when I started using the CPAP but I feel much better than I did before I got it.

I think it does, meat....although my dad has it and he is no where near my size--hes about 5-8 and about 175....some of it is likely hereditary, and some of it likely is attributed to size.

I am no doctor of course, but I would agree there would be a connection there somewhere.

I used mine for 3 years and seemed like I couldn't kick a continual runny nose. Since I dropped the 40 lbs I don't snore hardly at all. I still appear to stop breathing occasionally like before. My CPAP has the humidifier on it. i would recommend filling it half way with water and freezing it then just before bed fill it up with water (distilled) and it is alot nicer sleep. Maybe I'll get back on it

I hope it helps you HB. You (and the others who are on it) deserve a good nights sleep.

Yeah, I'm a big dude (6'4" and 300lbs). When I was diagnosed, I was around 230 lbs. I think my metabolism is shot. From what the doctor told me, people with neck sizes in excess of 17" are more susceptible than others. It has to do with the weight of tissue around the windpipe. Bigger neck tend to collapse the pharynx. It's not always big guys, as I know a few OSA sufferers who aren't big. In those cases it's usually caused by a deviated septum, or an enlarged tongue, or some shit like that.

I have a heated humidifier, but don't use it anymore. It was a pain in the ass to keep up and didn't give me the comfort that they promised. I got used to just the air. I'm also on a BiPap, which gives you a higher pressure (16) on inhale and a lower pressure on exhale (10). Works like a champ.

Dont they have a surgery or something that can correct it? A guy I used to work for, also a big guy, had this problem and got it corrected. He owned several companies and banks made him provide life insurance on his loans and it was so expensive that I think he came out cheaper getting the surgery.
