doesn't mean you can coach. The first of Dean's boys has lost his job, Curtis Hunter at North Carolina A&T. Not surprising, since the Aggies were 1-26 this season. AD Charlie Davis had been on the job less than one month when he fired long time successful football coach Bill Hayes and not has fired the basketball coach in the same school year.

    N.C. A&T fires basketball coach
From Staff Reports, Greensboro News & Record

N.C. A&T has fired men's basketball head coach Curtis Hunter, announcing Monday morning that the school would immediately begin a national search for his replacement.

Hunter's Aggies finished the worst season in the program's history, at 1-26, a week earlier in the MEAC tournament. Hunter was 39-75 in four years at A&T. It was the former North Carolina player's first stint as a college head coach. He had one year remaining on a five-year contract.

"In making this change in our basketball program," A&T athletics director Charlie Davis said in a release, "we will vigorously pursue a change in direction, leadership, ideas and expectations that we believe are necessary to bring to our alumni and supporters ... a team that will year-in and year-out be a contender for the MEAC crown and postseason play."

Davis will coordinate the team's recruiting efforts -- the Aggies have no commitments and as many as four scholarships available for next year -- while associate AD Wheeler Brown heads the screening committee that will attempt to fill the position quickly. Brown earlier headed A&T's football search committee after Bill Hayes was fired in the fall.

Charlie Davis is a little slow in the head. You ever hear him speak?

Yes. Charlie Davis doesn't impress me as an administrator either. He had the token Wake Forest job in their athletic marketing department for years. He had a falling out with the Athletic Director and left WFU. He became AD at Bowie State for just over two years before taking the NC A & T position. He made a bunch of long time supporters mad by firing Bill Hayes, the football coach. He seems to be living in controversy in Aggieland.

One thing though, CD was one heck of a good ball player at Wake Forest, 1968-1971. He averaged almost 25 points and was the first African American to be named ACC player of the year.

Hunter never did become an exceptional gambler.
