Based upon what I have been able to glean about the origins of both religions from CNN it seems to me that both prophets had similar stories. Both were alone when they had their visitations from God or his messenger, both were sinners, and neither was able to perform any miracles to prove they were indeed God's chosen. Both based their new religions on about 90% Judeo Christian religion and added to it. Both also claimed to be the last prophet.

So why should I give one more respect over the other? What else is there? Basically what would you tell me in order to make me "see the light"?

This question is not asked to anger or inflame. I am truly curious.

This question is for both Mormons and Muslims.

***edit: abraham for israel, got the lineage wrong.

I thought Joe Smith was an NBA player. Didn't he play at Maryland too.

    An excellent question, Sly.

From what I know, both probably fit the definition of prophet or messenger more than anything else. I think Mormon doctrine says Smith received golden plates from an angel which evolved into the Book of Mormon. I think the Qur'an is the product of a divine revelation Mohammad had in the desert (TimTam, can you confirm?).

Is it a matter of basically taking Smith and Mohammad's word at face value? Is there any other corroboration?
