The guy is one of the best ever. He always kept the team in contention with the exception of last year. With Wrenn apparently getting the job, don't look for any major changes.

If the Yankees fire Joe Torre, If I were Frank Wren....promote Bobby Cox to Assistant GM and get Joe Torre. I like Bobby, but Joe's got more experience in winning the big games.

Bobby Cox is the manager of the Atlanta Braves until he decides that he long longer wants the job. Cox is not the problem, granted I would have like to won a couple more World Series Championships but don't pin it on Cox.

Then what do you pin it on? Torre's got four rings and Bobby Cox only has one. Cox has had ample opportunities to win with loaded talent and didnt make the best of it. Torre succeeded with loaded talent and won more. Towards the end it appears that Cox was just satisfied with winning the division title versus winning the NL pennant or the World Series.

It's been nearly a decade since Torre last won a World Series, so you're really stretching in suggesting that he'd be better than Cox. And that's with a payroll that has consistently dwarfed Atlanta's. I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that the Braves might have won more championships if they didn't lose many more free agents than they've brought in over the years.

Ok, say Atlanta kept Gary Sheffield, Javy Lopez, Tom Glavine, etc... Does it mean they would have won more than one world series?

New York not only kept the players they developed, they also bought tons that other people have developed. Meanwhile Atlanta has very rarely bought any free agents. They've occasionally acquired superstars via trade, but their payroll over the years has come almost exclusively from paying guys that they brought up. The two are not even remotely comparable. No one knows if Atlanta buying free agents would have meant more world championships, but it seems like it would have given them better chances.
