yeah my math was off, i was just taking 5 from 9....anyway it was not bitching about him, I was pointing out that in fact kids are held back for reasons such as this...or they are held back because they are not very smart....or it's both. You just don't know when he was held back....prior to school or during middle/high school. (again it applies to all "older" college athletes)

The biggest thing is he turned 20 his freshman year before he began his first season of BBall.....being 20 vs being 18 is a huge difference for a Freshman in college.

Let me also add that Kyle Singler was 20 as a freshman as well and I think it shows in his development vs "true" freshmen.

Yet you automatically assume that it was because his parents wanted to give him an athletic advantage. Why is that?

Because it is for their benefit? Again not just him, its others...even players at Duke....It is a huge advantage of being 20 years old before you play your first collegiate game vs being an actual 18 year old freshman.

He was held back, Singler was held back....why? Who knows...chances are it was due to athletics and not academics...however it could have been either or or both.

Was Hansbrough held back? It's possible that he wasn't and I don't know the answer.

He was def held back, based on his age....(unless kids in Mizzou don't start until 6).....why is another story...and not that it matters....All i was saying was that the age of the freshman is more significant than the class of the student.

shit. There were at least a hundred six-year-old center prospects better than Hansbro when he was an incoming kindergartner. This is motherfucking indisputed.

They had much better potential at the next level.

not sure about Hansbrough's situation - having a November birthday would automatically make him an older student for his grade since most school systems have a sept/oct cut off date. Meaning a kid with a sept birthday will start school a year earlier than a kid with a Nov birthday.

In NC some athletes "re-class" to get an extra year to get bigger, stronger or get grades right. Ragsdale had a great ball player as a freshman, Duece Bello who went to Westchester Country Day his soph year. Except he re-classed and was now a freshman again. So he'll end up with five years of high school ball. Getting recruited hard by Wake and will almost certainly end up in the ACC as one of these 20 year old freshman ball players

That was my question, did he actually get held back or is this just a rumor because of his age.
