    So you have to go to a race nowadays to find a race fan. Back before NASCAR ruined the "sport", their was a lot more interest in what happened on Sundays. I used to be a diehard fan. Now I really couldn't care less. I would bet there are great numbers of folks just like me.

    FWIW, I'm probably considered to be a "new fan". And I've been a Jimmie Johnson fan since he started racing. But even I can't bring myself to tune into a race anymore.... And my driver is about to win the championship.... Again!!

    edit.... Sorry. He DID win the championship. See there? I didn't even know it was finally over.

    Let me see if I can explain this, if you don't buy a ticket to a race, don't watch it on tv, don't listen to races on the radio, don't know if "your favorite driver" won a championship, YOU AREN'T REALLY A FAN. You're just a poser fan.

    I would expect a lot of Jimmie fans to be new to the sport. They formed a new team with a sponsor that has lots of employees. Some of his fans are like me. Switched to Jimmie because of his sponsor and didn't really have a favorite since the Skoal Bandit retired.
