    from Jay Glazer at CBSSportsline:

    Coaching carousel spinning wildly

The musical chairs game among the NFL's coaching ranks is in full force.

The NFL Today and SportsLine.com have learned that 49ers defensive coordinator Jim Mora Jr. will interview Sunday with Panthers coach John Fox for Carolina's vacant defensive coordinator slot. That position was opened by the departure of Jack Del Rio, who left to become the Jaguars head coach.

Follow us if you can. Mora Jr. is one of the candidates for the vacant 49er head coach job and has another year under contract with San Francisco. But despite his candidacy to become to replace Mariucci, the Niners granted the Panthers permission on Friday to conduct the interview.

Mora might also find suitors in teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs. If Fox cannot hire Mora, he will look to somebody on his own staff before looking outside the organization for his second defensive coordinator in as many years.

Sounds like Mora, Mills, or Trgovac. If it's Mora or Trgovac, Mills probably goes with JDR.

I don't think that's so, re: Mills. He's still under contract, and we don't have to grant him permission.
I still have to wonder if Cunningham is a choice.

Mora? He's young. Good, certainly, but has always had a good offense. He's never been stand-alone great. But he's probably the best out there either way.

permission? Didn't think we had that option if it wasn't a lateral move.

permission is required for EVERYTHING except Head Coach now... and its still "good business" to ask when its about a HC

yep. Gotta ask, and since Mills is a "buddy system" nominee like the Baltimore guys, not a hot league commodity, it's not necessarily stopping Mills from any suggested destiny by not letting him go.

Looks like Mora Jr. will interview for the job today, and its probably his if he wants it.

Also noticed no mention of Mills as a canidate, but Perry and Trgovac are. Wonder what is up with that?

    Holden the brotha man down.

Is Mills ready to be a DC? He is only 4 years removed from the league, not that that matters. But, is he?

Everything is speculation at this point, but with losing Del Rio, Walls probably out the door, and now maybe Mills, Fox isn't going to be popular with a lot of fans over this (not that Del Rio is anyone's "fault"). It's not that these changes are mistakes or bad ones necessarily, but if two of the guys who have symbolized the Panthers are both gone in one off season, Fox needs to do some major winning to "clean the slate" with some fans.

I think Fox had a lot to do with hand selecting/structuring last years defensive staff. Which in my mind says he has a pretty good eye for it. I think he'll keep that going.

I'm more concerned with him letting Hennings run the show on offense this off season.
