Maybe. Of course, it might just make them feel like you need to hear what they are saying more than most. It depends on who you get.

If you aren't interested in what they are saying, tell them as much. It's not gonna hurt their feelings, especially if you're nice about it. They hear it all the time. I would guess that 99.9% of the people that they talk say thanks, but no thanks. They are out there because they feel it is a Christian obligation. If you aren't interested, then it's on you because they've done their part.

I know that I'm replying to a lot of old stuff,but................I don't think that you could become one of the 144,000 until after the death of Christ. Thus, the disciples make it but, those who died before Christ didn't (i.e. Moses, Joshua, Elijah, or John the Baptist). It has something to do with Christ's sacrifice and him being the first man to take his place as prince in heaven (or something like that). There is only about 8000 living JWs who claim to be of the 144,000 anointed. The other 6 million JWs have earthly hope to live in a restored paradise where everyone who has died will be resurrected and given a chance at life in God's kingdom. That would mean that everyone in the Old Testament would live on earth rather than in heaven.

Yeah, I'm mainly just being a wiseass. In real life I can seldom bring myself to be such a prick. Last time I was home on leave I was browsing for CDs at a Hastings and got jumped by a couple of little fluffbrained high school girls wanting to know "if I died today did I know where I was gonna go." (I was wearing my black t-shirt with Hellraiser's Pinhead on it, so I probably looked "lost" to them.)

I knew the type from my days as a squeaky clean participant in Christian youth culture... the kind of teenage girls who often go to the prayer altar hand-in-hand to pray together, bring as many of their friends as they can to every church picnic and youth event within 20 miles, and use the word "awesome" a lot. Nice and well-meaning enough, but painfully naive and a little annoying.

I was nice. I talked to them a while without cracking overly wise. I managed to get them to leave me to shop in peace without being harsh. If someone came to my home and didn't persist once I said thanks-but-no thanks I'd probably do the same.

I haven't ever had a Jehova's Witness ring my doorbell but once an atheist rang it. When I answered the door he wanted nothing at all.

yeah, one time an agnostic rang my door bell. When I answered, she was uncertain why she was even there.
