Panthers | Jeffers Update - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
3:38 PT: The Gaston Gazette reports Carolina Panthers WR Patrick Jeffers (knee surgery) won’t be taking part in the team’s minicamp this week. As reported, Jeffers, who has had five knee surgeries in the past two years, is hopeful of being ready to go come training camp.

Months ago I was ready to dump this guy. Nothing personal, but it's time to move on. How many takers that he won't be ready to go come training camp?? We are paper thin at WR, meaning...even just on paper we're thin.

Panthers | Weinke to Resume Throwing - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
3:39 PT: The Gaston Gazette reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke (shoulder) will begin throwing the football on a limited basis this week. The Panthers kick off a three day minicamp on Monday, but the team is limiting Weinke’s activity following shoulder surgery. He’s expected to be at full-speed when training camp begins at the end of July.

I'm just a little worried about this, but not really. It's a good sign he'll begin throwing. The Panthers really need Weinke full speed at camp.

Of course, two months ago, the main reason everyone became concerned about Jeffers was the fact that he went under the knife, and would miss the mini camp. So this is really old news.

He's taken the pay cut down to the minimum, with incentives. Therefore, I'm for keeping him into training camp, to see if the knee responds. It's not like he is expensive, and cutting him now as opposed to August doesn't really impact us.

Do they have the screens up around the fences this week?

    C'mon...it's 6/1 - I want a WR:cool:

Yea, I realize this is old news, but that's my point really. It's the same old news again and again.

The money is not my problem. I'm for keeping through camp, sure, why not. But by depending on him I'm afraid that later we'll have to choose from the talent pool of left over WR's. Which basically means what we have is what we got because nobody will be left better than what we have, unless ofcourse we just just get luccky and find a gem in the rough. So keep your fingers crossed.

I don’t think we are depending on him. Hoping, maybe, but not depending. We are depending on Moose, Byrd, and Smith as our 1,2, and 3. We are hoping for Jeffers. If he doesn’t work out, maybe one of the youngsters work out, and Hankton can be serviceable and contribibute to special teams. And after this mini-camp, if we are still real nervous about those youngsters being anything anytime soon, maybe we bring in a McCardell in place of say, Byrd, really. A McCardell would only make sense as a #2, not depth. I think Smith will get every opportunity to be at least the #3 reciever.

Maybe that's why you are nervous.

Gut tells me that they will go hard after a good WR FA. They didn't draft one and they've been making noise that we are fine at WR and that Moose is a franchise WR (gulp!). I'm betting it's all a bluff and that they have calculated since before the draft that someone they like is going to be available. They're savy enough to know they can't depend on Jeffers and that we are paper thin at WR.

Well, I don't want another over priced, back loaded salary to just have to eat dead money in the later years. But at the sametime, Moose-hamstring, Byrd-ankle, Jefferes-knee, Smith-starter
    :shakehead :saywhat: :mercy:
