More on the saga of the knee that couldnt. Jeffers the 99 stand out WR for our beloved Panthers is continuing to have in my opinion negative press about his return and it continues to look to me like he wont don a Panther jersey this year. The following comes from the mothership herself.

"Asked if he expected Jeffers to be ready for the start of training camp July 26, Fox said: "It's like speculating the stock market. With medical issues, there's a time frame and sometimes it varies from that."

Though Jeffers remains optimistic, he admitted he cannot be sure that he will be able to pass the Panthers' pre-training camp physical.

"Right now," he said, "I'm just thinking about what sort of rehab I can do to help myself."

This can't be a good thing...I hope someone steps up and takes on a solid roll for the team, or it will be tough to throw to Moose or Walls.

If he fails the precamp physical, which seems quite likely, what does that mean cap-wise, bonus money wise, and everything money-wise?

    Just curious.

The same as cutting him now.

His bonus money, including the restructure money he got a year ago or so, is on the books for this year regardless. If we cut him, the remaining balance is charged to next year. Since its the last year of his contract, it's on there anyway. So no effect, essentially.

We would save 500,000 in salary by cutting him. He took a pay cut in order to stay on the team and compete for a spot, like Morabito did last year. So the question is, is there a vet out there that's willing to play for us for 500K, and if so, would we want them here vs seeing what Jeffers can do. And if we wait, and Jeffers can't go, are we betting that their will be someone just as good then as now, ala Byrd. My guess is we are betting on the latter.

  5. There is some rule where if he doesn't participate in team drills during training camp, he then has to miss the first six games of the upcoming season. His spot will not count against the player limit during that 6 week period. This may be the better route because his strength is his speed and if he can't run, he's a waste of space on the team. He'll have the additional time to heal and 24/7 rehad during camp.

    TS-

No. We have the option to do that, its not a requirement. Called the PUP list. We don't actually save anything other than a roster spot.
