I'm no more concerned with Byrd and Smith as the starters than I was Moose & Hayes. The way I look at it, Byrd played with more fire and more crucial catches than Moose did last year. Smith will get off the line quicker than Hayes and probably be more of a deep threat in our new system than either guy.

But then again, I don't think we have had a true "playmaker" at the WR slot since Jeffers was healthy in '99. Don't get me wrong, Moose will probably still have a productive career here or somewhere else... I just don't think he will ever fall into the Rice, Owens, Carter, Swann, Stallworth group...

Think I would rather stick with jeffers than Freeman. Talk about your best days being behind you.

damn, the guy hasn't even been drafted yet.

i'd rather have moose than byrd. at least moose can get fired up for a game and drag tacklers. i dont see byrd doing either. and moose has made some clutch catches, he just missed a bunch of them last season. (the stuff about guys coming up big in contract years is very true.)

you're right though, as much as he wants to be terrell owens or david boston, moose is not a do-it-all receiver. he's not quite a no. 2 guy, either. he's a 1.5 guy. he needs a capable receiver opposite him to take some pressure off.

if the panthers could get three receivers on the field, i'd like to see moose, smith and a someone (javon walker, cough cough) from the draft.

So McArdell, Ismail, and Freeman wouldn't be a dramatic improvement over Jeffers? I'm done with Panthers having arthritic knees. Byrd did very well, but as a #3 guy. He will play #2 this year more than Jeffers, if Jeffers plays very much at all.

I think Moose quit on Seifert early, and the team followed. I don't think you can look at Moose last year and say wether or not he still has it.

Freeman and Moose opposite each other. Think of what a Freeman could do for Weinke most of all. He was Farve's favorite target last year. And with that comes something nobody on this team can give Weinke.

draft Ron Johnson out of Minnesota...6-3..220...he ran a 4.6 which will put him in the 3rd round... a solid durable player...will make a good possession type receiver...nice compliment to moose...two big strong recievers make it tough on dbs.

have the panthers ever had a durable receiver?

I think the better thing to do is get a guy that will place Moose at #2. We'd be all the better for it.

yeah, because it's not hard, expensive, or implausible with our other needs to just go out and get a Pro Bowl wide receiver.

Was that 1 or 2 Pro Bowls for Moose? I'm too lazy to look it up. Anyway, I'm not infatuated with players that have one Pro Bowl under their belt. Its a nice accomplishment, but in a system designed specifically for his position...

Hey Moose is a very good WR - no doubt. While I was pissed at his negative attitude vs him taking on more of a leadership role, I am basically indifferent to him. If he stays fine, if he goes fine... I just like to see us raise the bar at that position.

He had one, and you're not really able to pull off the sarcasm that well.

Nonetheless, I figure on average Muhsin is a step below Pro Bowl. Therefore a step above is... yes, I know I'm giving you a lot of credit to figure that one out on your own. Anyway the average Pro Bowl receiver isn't that easy to find and you kinda missed that point not only in wanting to get rid of him but in wanting to keep him but replace him in his role. It's not easy to do by any means and isn't something we just set out to do with the flick of a wrist.
