I thought it was a slam dunk Lopez would end up in San Diego?

Dec. 4 - Lopez's agent, Chuck Berry, told the Baltimore Sun the Orioles have expressed interest in his client, and the interest is mutual. "We've had a couple of conversations," Berry told the Sun. "There's no offer out on the table, but I think we'll be talking soon about some dollars and cents."
Lopez earned $7 million last season and enjoyed a career year, hitting .328 with 43 home runs and 109 RBI. However, he still is expected to be less expensive than Pudge Rodriguez, the other veteran catcher in whom the O's reportedly have interest.
Pudge is getting low balled as Orioles are looking elsewhere. Look for Pudge to resignin Florida

Estrada didn't do squat when he played for the Phillies(at the major league). Traded to Braves and flourished in AAA came into his own. We'll see what he does against the big boys this time around

I think Estrada will do fine. He'll be very comparable to the Javy we were used to seeing prior to this season. Its also good to see the Orioles with some money to spend once again. They seem to be making a serious run at both Javy and Vlad. I'd like to see them compete again!

Supposidely the Orioles have 40 million dollars to spend and should start forking it out this weekend. Vlad, Tejada and Pudge/Javy are tops on their list. Camden Yards was made for Vlad.

Javy signs after Pudge makes comments like he is all set to sign in Baltimore. Pudge's options are shrivveling up

I wish Ted would buy the Braves back from AOL/Time Warner and cut out all of this BS cutting salaries! Braves fans waited too long for the Braves to become successful to now have our throats cut!!

I think its time the Braves rebuilt with youth... look what it done for Florida... I'm not saying strip the team down to where they can't compete, but this year they are moving to youth rather than attempting to buy a championship... will they win the division?? Doubtful, but not impossible... they'll need big years by their rooks and the return of Chipper Jones would be nice

    Merry Christmas to Everyone!

I think it's smart building around youth. I wouldn't mind getting rid of Chipper Jones, but it won't happen. I think when you have a team of moderately priced players and great coaching, good things can happen. I just hope that Cox unleashes the motion offense by doing a lot more running than in the past. He has been known to play for the 3-run homer, which was smart last year, but not this year. After all, the Braves payroll will still be above the level of the past 2 World Series Champions, even though it comes down signficantly.

When the back years of Hampton's contract kick in, some more hard choices will have to be made, possibly by then, Smoltz will retire and Chipper goes to the American League as a DH.
