That crazy 2011 performance didn't show up in 2012. Yet another of my Charles Johnson alternative scenarios bites the dust. D'oh.

he's got age, but it'd be neat to have him as a backup.

I wanted Aso bad too. Its incredible how great he looked in Raiderville and the complete suckage that is the Philly secondary right now.

Our first 2 TD's yesterday were quite comical.

Babin was one of the worst run defending DEs in the whole league, even with his 18 sacks last year. He is very similar to Osi Humanurine, but probably even worse against the run and absolutely abysimal against a screen pass, which teams have been using more frequently against the Wide 9 this year because of the downhill nature of the D-line formation. Its no coincidence you saw that one screen that would've gone for a lot of yards that Cam overthrew thrown to his side. Stat-whore is definitely a label that came up even in the middle of his pro-bowl season last year from fans watching every game. He's also 32, so probably only has a few years of production left.

There is a 1st round pick (Brandon Graham) and a 2nd round pick (Vinny Curry) behind him that will be more of the future and its better to get them the reps. I think Babin still has his place as a pass rushing specialist, but no reason to pay him when they needed to move pass him anyway.

they had Juqua Parker who helped out a lot against the run (for those scoring at home, Parker was one of the various ends I was interested in, in Parker's care finding that Hardy was struggling at the run and taking too many snaps - he's not struggling against the run, his sack production is higher in the first half which might suggest too many snaps, but we have a good backup, and Hardy hasn't waned with more games the way he did last year), and without that guy, Babin's struggled somewhat, but nothing's currently working so it's hard to say "it's definitely this". Just as Shockey is missed, but one player doesn't unravel everything. Nothing's working for Philly. Playing Babin outside his comfort zone is just one of many problems.

(I wanted to go on a rant that Jeremy Shockey and Legedu Naanee aren't a net sum of 38 points difference [252 this point last year, 214 this point so far], and I don't think they are, but they did score 5 TD total last year, and that's 30 points - the end result is that different approaches and defensive/offensive contributions have a 3-8 record after 12 weeks, both ways).

Back to Babin, and Edwards before him, I don't see what teams feel like they're getting by cutting these guys, unless there's some major unstated/underlying issue.

I didn't want to respond the first time but this came up in my mind again today. I didn't think Babin was a good fit (he moved for Washburn) at the time and so that can't be a concern now that it's failed, either. Not to open this completely up but I still don't think Cullen Jenkins or Brandon Mebane would've been here for the reasons (I feel) they did what they did.

And money on DW in that scenario, that seems to have been the major failure. But even then, it's not his fault they haven't given him many downhill carries since signing him. Whether it was last year's shotgun draws for almost no yardage or this year's veer option for a quick loss, it's disappointing to scheme a player out of success but still use him enthusiastically. And you know I like Chud, that's not what it's about.

it stuck at me while watching us actually win the ballgame the other night, and I imagine you saw this as well, that last drive had some real runs in it. Zone power, quick hitting runs. And they worked. No other options to present, and obviously the defense knew it was coming, but it worked. No idea why it has to be harder than that.
