Saw a sneak preview of Jarhead tonight. I thought it would be more serious than it was. More like a funny movie with serious parts than a serious movie with funny parts. I thought it was really good, but I didn't read the book. 3 of us who didn't read the book thought it was real good, but the two that read the book were dissapointed

It was what it was -- a deep look into the mind of a young marine during Desert Storm. Knowing that, it wasn't what I expected. It reminded me a lot of movies like 'Platoon and to a lesser extent 'Apocalypse Now'. It was graphic, but the more disturbing parts of the movie were psychological -- especially what the Marine Corps has to do to those kids to make them marines.

We saw it last night and enjoyed it. Consider it more of a visual diary than a war movie, meaning, this is not anything like Saving Private Ryan or Platoon.

It actually reminds me of the book "Johnny Got His Gun". Revised version.

Quick question, is this a movie or documentary?

Movie, based on the diary and book of a marine in Desert Storm.
