Jammer on the trade block

That'd be tough to pull off. I'm sure the Chargers aren't interested in eating any bonus money. So it'd have to go as TS said, and then we'd have to come out with that 30 million dollar deal, before the trade would get finalized. Not much chance of making that work.

A team it might work for, scarily enough, is the Ravens. They've got the cap room, with Lewis signed.

Yea, this trade would be very difficult to pull off. Plus, Jammer will be very expensive and we would be giving up what could be the #1 pick in the draft - along with all the options that affords us.

Is Jammer worth that? On second though, he might not be.

This is just the kind of wet dream that many of us were fantasizing about around draft time.
It sounded a little like this,
“Dudes, what if somehow we were able to get Peppers AND Jammer and still land one of the top RBs like Portis or Foster with our 2nd round pick?!?!”
I think one of the Char.com guys was talking about trading all of our remaining picks to trade up and pull something like that off. Getting 3 of the top 7 or 8 players (potential wise) in the 2002 draft would be downright astounding.
Back in Realityville, how would we EVER handle all the constant ego jockeying and salary oneupsmanship? Jammers agent (& Jammer?) have already proven to be uncooperative. I would hate for Peppers and Foster to catch that disease any sooner than they might. We would not be able to keep all three future “superstars” for long and we’d be left with salary cap HELL.
I think we’re better off in the long run not having to deal with a ME ME ME player who wants to be just like his idol Deon Sanders.

Not to argue your point about not being able to sign Jammer - but I think San Diego may be the problem.

They couldn't get a deal done with Vick - so they traded and got LaDanian. He held out. I believe Brees held out.

Now Jammer. I think it may be San Diego.

But no - we can't have Peppers, Foster, and Jammer, too.

If the team liked him enough to make a move on him, enough to almost pick him, then sure.

Problem is it's not like we're talking about "some #1 pick". We're talking high #1. If we ended up giving up a high #1 pick, the value isn't there, and a 4 to boot is far too much. The Chargers have to give some to get some - they're the ones at the disadvantage.
Corner is a problem for us. Jammer could come in and do some damage for us. But I wouldn't put a #1 pick into it next year, and that's what we'd be doing. It's certainly a lot better than we could do next year, but it's a high price. I'd give up a 2 and 3, a linebacker, and whatever else, but not the #1.

That, and in retrospect, it's not that he wouldn't fit, but we can deal with a lesser athlete at the corner in the cover two. He's got the instincts and the discipline, but he's got a lot more man-cover athleticism than we'll ever use.

    >>If the Chargers have to sign him first doesn't that defeat the purpose of this exercise?

No. Why would a team trade for a player without negotiating the contract, if they could have a hand in negotiating the contract? The very basic idea of Sign and Trade deals are that the trading team is comfortable with the deal.

I think the Chargers might be the problem. They have had trouble signing high draft picks for a few years, now.
Now that it's come to this, I don't want Jammer anymore. If we could have worked out something to draft him, that would be different. Even though the Chargers might be part of the problem, Jammer doesn't seem to be giving any either.
If we were to work a deal, we'd be screwed for years to come all for a rookie who hasn't proven anything yet...I'd pass.

if no one bites before the start of the reg season, offer them the extra 4th. Then offer him $75 and a Big Mac. We might have a chance.

  8. just to clarify, if the lions could have worked it under the cap, jammer would be a lion right now...that's how close it was. Other teams have offers on the table, I don't know which teams they are. the lions fucked themselves by taking cap hits for batch, morton, and moore this year to clear the cap for future years.

The sticking point in his contract is escalator clauses...the chargers are the problem, jammer is reasonable considering the contracts of those picked before and after him.

You're telling me that a corner wasn't picked because he would have been more expensive than a quarterback? Doubt it. Also doubt there'd have been any indication that Jammer would be harder to sign.

I think TS was referring to Detroit's attempt to trade for Jammer before the deadline on unsigned draft picks. I don't think he was talking about drafting him instead of Harrington.
