Jammer on the trade block

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by Tiorted Snoil, Aug 19, 2002.

  1. the chargers are fielding offers for him...I think they've given up on signing him. this season is probably a waste at this point anyways. he'll probably take a number one and a number 4 or 5 (or both). the lions almost pulled it off but it won't happen under their cap. whoever gets him will have to negotiate the contract and have him sign with the chargers, then traded.

I would (salary cap permitting) give up our #1 next yr for him. We have an extra #4 so throw that in too. Jammer would be a HUGE addition to this team and is like getting a top 5 player in the draft a yr early. I would get his ass if at all possible!!!!

I hate to give up #1 picks, but he has an aweful lot of talent.

  3. Anyone know how the rules work here....if he signs with the Chargers and is then traded...does he count against the new teams rookie cap or the chargers...or both?

I would love to have him. Given all our dead money I'd be willing to bet we couldnt even come cose to affording him.

    Not this year

The deadline for trading rights to unsigned draftpicks has passed.
The Chargers would have sign and then trade.

Isn't that what Snoil just said...
    SIGN AND THEN TRADED!!!!

I would make an offer if I were the Panthers. We need a guy like Jammer in our secondary.

The Chargers would take the cap hit on the bonus up front, we'd assume the prorated cap number I think. BTW, what's Gillbert's cap number these days? If the Chargers have to sign him first doesn't that defeat the purpose of this exercise?

I'd say yes. If they can sign him, they'll keep him, IMO.

We won't be landing Quentin Jammer.

  10. what they'd have to do is sign him to a one or two year deal with no bonus, then trade him to a team that will extend the contract and give him the bonus. the only reason they have to sign him is because they are past the trade date for unsigned draft picks.
