Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose has announced the hiring of Jamie Green as head men's golf coach for the 49ers. Green succeeds Ben Hannan, who resigned in May.

"The success of our program has made this a very attractive position and we were extremely pleased with the number of quality applicants," said Rose. "Jamie's qualifications made him rise to the top and after speaking with him and others in the golf community it solidified Jamie as our top candidate."

Green is a 1993 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University who has eight years of experience as an assistant coach. Most recently, Green has served as assistant coach at North Carolina for four years. Green has also served as an assistant coach at Auburn and Dartmouth.

"I believe UNC Charlotte is a mirror image of the Charlotte community - growing, vibrant, and unique," said Green. "I am really looking forward to working with Judy Rose and everyone involved in Charlotte Athletics. Our golf team is going to have fun and enjoy the success they'll earn through good old-fashioned hard work. We'll strive to make the Charlotte and university community proud."

Green was an assistant at North Carolina from 1999-2003 under head coach John Inman. During that time, the Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Championship tournament three times, placing 10th in 2000, 17th in 2002 and ninth in 2003. In addition, North Carolina produced four all-Americas during his time there: Dustin Bray (2002, 2003); Ramon Bescansa (2002); Max Harris (2000) and Richard Treis (2003) and two Atlantic Coast Conference individual champions: Richard Treis in 2003 and Dustin Bray in 2002. Treis (2003) and Bob Cherry (2002) were also named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-American Scholars. This past year, Green was one of three finalists for the inaugural Jan Strickland GCAA Assistant Coach of the Year.

He spent two seasons at Auburn (1997-1999) and helped the Tigers to a 10th-place finish at the 1998 NCAA Championships behind the play of all-America Reid Edstrom. He began his coaching career at Dartmouth in 1996-97.

A Class "A" member of the PGA, Green was Head Assistant Golf Professional at Hanover Country Club at Dartmouth College from 1994-97 and has served as an assistant golf pro at four other facilities. He was a three-year letterwinner at Ohio Wesleyan and competed in the 1992 NCAA Division III Championship.

Jamie is married to Heidi Green, M.D., originally from Brunswick, Ohio.

My parents had a summer place up there in the 80s, I watched the NH Amateur on that course. My dad and I even sneaked a couple of holes in late one night. One hole is a ski jump in the winter time.
