If you are talking about Curry, seems like I read he was 18. Is that a child? When I was 18 we could drink beer legally, but we could not vote. Now 18 year olds can vote but cannot drink beer. What's the deal with that? When should a person be considered an adult? Shoud beer be prohibited for adults?

I said I would not bring up religious liberty again on the sports forum. If you want to debate me on the intent of the Founders on religious liberty then start a thread on the Rant and Rave board. If you do then notify me here and give me the thread title. That board moves really fast

I grew up in Elizabeth City and my parents had a cottage on the Outer Banks. During the sixties (and even a few decades before that) the Casino was the place to go to party. Don’t be fooled by the name; it was not about gambling. It was about the only place to go and hear live music, lots of soul music in those days. Bob Marshall and the Crystals would do a great James Brown routine. And it was about dancing barefoot and drinking beer. It was crowded and a little wild at times. There was no age limit for getting in but one had to be 18 to walk up to the bar and buy a beer. The ABC officer was Mr. Coats and he would perch himself in the front of the building. If he caught you drinking underage he would call your parents and they would come get your ass and take care of things their way. There was less hysteria and more common sense in those days. The Casino was an all-classes meeting place. It was right in the middle of aristocratic Old Nags Head, but I don’t remember there being complaints about noise or rowdiness. Of those I remember getting caught by Mr. Coats, all have become very successful in life and they include a department head of a large university and a professor of medicine. Everyone knew it was more of a passage than a corralling of the evil. Today things are quite different. Today they stigmatize the kids for life and they never get into medical school or law school. Seems like I remember one of the relatives of one person caught in this sting saying in an interview why couldn’t they just call the parents rather than the sheriff.

Because today has changed and parents are parents anymore. 18 year olds can't drive past 9pm, let alone deal with weed. So, you call the parents and it never solves anything. Anyone on a school campus is told if they see any illegal activities for you to call crime stoppers, not their fuckin' parents.
Tommy, quit living in the 50's, and take a reality check, kids arent' "kids" anymore, and with time changing, so do the restrictions and consequences, b/c kids are getting worse and worse.

Yes, things have changed. Like I said, there is more hysteria and less common sense. It's not just the 18 year olds the government is attempting to infantalize, it's all of us. Perhaps Orwell explains it better than anyone in Animal Farm:

"Afterwards Squealer was sent round the farm to explain the new arrangement to the others.

'Comrades,' he said, 'I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself. Do not imagine, comrades, that leadership is a pleasure! On the contrary, it is a deep and heavy responsibility. No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?…

This, said Squealer, was something called tactics. He repeated a number of times, 'Tactics, comrades, tactics!' skipping round and whisking his tail with a merry laugh. The animals were not certain what the word meant, but Squealer spoke so persuasively, and the three dogs who happened to be with him growled so threateningly, that they accepted his explanation without further questions."
