I had one for five years, and the string thing never worried me. In fact, I never felt or even noticed it. Getting it inserted though was a complete nightmare as they had to dilate my cervix with a (what looked like) a chisel and hammer ( ). I'm told though that it's much easier for chica's who have had kids. It took a couple of months for it to settle down and nasty, hateful cramps were common for a good three months until me front bum got used to it. I think in hindsight, I'd have the Merina as it has the wee bit extra to combat menstral pain and can control bleeding a bit better with the additional progesterone built into it. Plus, you can have it in for 10+ years now. I got my `plain Jane' IUD removed in the end as I was having "other issues" and meant to go back to have the Merina inserted, but frankly, couldn't face it. My Doctor advised that they can inject you with a series of wee local anaesthetics in your uterus to ease the pain, and as I sat there sincerely nodding and smiling away, secretly thought "you must be fucking joking sweetheart" .

 

Personally I think it's unnatural, but I don't argue that for someone who is has an ongoing sexual relationship and don't want to get pregnant, then you do what you gotta do.

My friend wants to get one..

GIRL! I had my cervix opened once and Oh MY GOD. That shit hurt worse than anything I've ever been through, childbirth included.

 

I'd never bang a chick with an IUD. That thing is a contraption, and you don't put contraptions up your whosits.

And sadic..............................................You're carrying this no chemical/foreign substance blah blah too far. Some chicks really can't tolerate condoms, nor the pill. What do you suggest?
