Our second pick, JR Reid, was a semi-skilled player with little work ethic or heart. Our first hero, Kelly Tripucka, was old. And we were relying on the Rudy Keys and Elliott Perry's to get it done. Sure, we had Muggsy and Dell, but they weren't 'special' yet, as we had no idea they would be lifers (essentially). We needed lifeblood and then BAM, hit the lottery jackpot. Talk about hitting the goldmine, literally




They say the third time is a charm, and it was. After having a chance to make the playoffs on the last day of the strike shortened season, we got the third pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. I remember my friend telling me the news, and just being in disbelief knowing the odds. Unfortunately the gift of Baron was ultimately balanced by the death of Bobby Phills, but I digress, Baron gets a pic too
