the church i attend is about half sermon and prayer, and half singing (way way way way way to much).

our preacher man is awesome, but the music director and the band stink. i just wish i could go, sit, listen to a sermon, learn some stuff and leave... i dont want to hand clap to a bunch of old, no talent white women who are just up there for the attention...

i love music, but i find that most contemporary christian music is corney an has no soul...

i like the old hank williams stuff, he did it good....

I think music has its place and is of some value but if you are going only for the music I think you are short changing yourself. The sermon is where you learn and receive guidance. The sermon is substance while the music is often times not, especially contemporary music.

If you pay attention, the hymns are usually picked to reinforce the message of the sermon as are the New and Old Testament readings. There should be a common theme running through each.

If the message of the songs does not help you then jazzing them up will not either. I would just listen to some Creed and stay home if all I wanted was some contemporary christian music.

Bottom line...music is more important to some of us then others. It's extremly important to me. It helps me get in a worshipful mood and its how I like to Praise God.
But if your not into much, your just not, nothing wrong with that.
I for one, don't think I'd enjoy a church where the music wasn't good. But I like hymns, contemporary music etc.

There is nothing wrong with that Spud. I just have been to some churches where the music is really all they offer. The preacher gets up when they are done and gives everyone a verbal pat on the back and that is all they have.

If a church does not offer real preaching then it is not going to accomplish much, even if they have thousands of members who are drawn for the music.

You are probably right about that but it should not be that way. I think a lot of the salt has lost its flavor if you know what I mean.

I have visited a lot of churches in my area and found many that had good music but a weak pastor whose sermon did very little for me. The church I have been attending for the past few months is not like that. They have music, and it is not bad music, but the pastor actually preaches the gospel and admonishes.

VI I think we live in the same area so I wont name churches :)
