    I do know I went to a church where I thought the message was good, but when the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" it was so pitiful I couldn't imagine attending there. I mean aren't you supposed to be telling GOD how GREAT you think He is when your singing?
    I do think music counts more to some people then others. That's why we have different styles of worship. To each their own so to speak. It does matter a lot to me.

    I've always preferred the sermons over the worship. And our church has a pretty good band. But that's just the way I'm wired. :)

    I've been at churches with the leader playing an acoustic guitar and the backup singers and all that, and the reading off the projector screen. I didn't like it.
    I prefer hymns, honestly. I prefer performing sacred music and I prefer worshipping with it. It surprised me, once we were looking for a church again, how much of the traditionalist conventions I'd missed.

    If music really helps you spiritually then I am all for it but I just have a hard time when people say they liked the sermon but will not go back because the music was poor. To me that is like going to a panthers game and never going back because the coke you bought was flat.

    I guess it comes down to if you go to church to be entertained or to worship.

    So if you like good spiritual music you want to be entertained? Or if you like a good sermon you want to be entertained?
    Your not participating in worship by listening to a sermon, but you are when your singing praises and hymns.
    I still say its just a preference in worship. Some people like quiet and like to refelct. There is nothing wrong in choosing what suits you best.

    I like going to contemporary service sometimes. Generally, I like to worship in a reverent manner. I find it hard to concentrate on God during the commotion of some contemporary services I have been to. The sermon is always an opportunity for reverent reflection.

    It's hard for me to really connect during mass worship services, too, although it has happened for me. Most of my worshipping is done alone.

    Funny that this should arise now.......the next book of the Bible is Psalms, here's a little appetizer.

    Pslams 150
    Praise the Lord!
    Praise God in his Temple;
    praise him in his mighty heaven.
    Praise him for his strength;
    praise him for his greatness.
    Praise him with the trumpet blasts;
    praise him with the harps and lyres.
    Praise him with the tambourines and dancing;
    praise him with the stringed instruments and flutes.
    Praise him with loud cymbals;
    Let eveything that hath breath praise the Lord.
    Praise the Lord!
