anything as in web surfing or anything at all?

you could try the task manager to see if there's some process that's hogging resources.

what are you virtual memory settings and how full is your system disk?

    Vista sucks major ass.

I have been most unfortunate to have purchased three laptops during the failed vista experiment. Microsoft execs should be shamed into hari kari for selling that shit to the public.

One of the easiest things to try is disabling some of the start-up programs.

if you get an explorer error message, it's vista.

if you feel brave you could run msconfig and see what runs at start up and disable certain ones. just don't disable any microsoft ones unless you know what they are and what they do. there should be an option to hide all microsoft services.

start --> run --->msconfig, then hit OK

just an fyi, explorer doesn't mean IE, explorer is the shell windows runs on

Weird. I have Vista on my laptop and haven't had a single problem with anything, other than a couple of differences in Vista and XP that it took me a few minutes to figure out. But functionality has been fine. No problems with my browser. I haven't installed hardly any programs though, I keep all those on my desktop with XP, sounds like I'll just leave it that way.
