Some people just don't want to live in a plurality no matter what. That is the main problem with the abortion issue, most "REAL" christians would rather destroy the whole society than accept that the majority of society does not see the issue their way and wants safe abortions available. Rather than feel threatened, it would be better for preachers to reinforce that the flock is more free to practice their faith in peace and security, rather than incite the flock to destablize the general society. Funny that the pat robertsons of the world are calling the mullahs destructive fanatics.

How do you fight people with such a mindset without adopting a mindset of your own. We certainly had an us verses them mindset in WW2 and the cold war.

But an US versus them approach should be AMERICANS versus terrorists. You want a crusade. That's what you've always wanted. In my eyes, you're no better than they are.

I AM NO FUCKING PART OF ANYTHING YOU ARE, sir. How dare you consider that I am, sir. If you wish to speak for yourself, you have ever right. But don't think for a moment that you can speak for me, EVER.

    Agreed.

True. If Christians think they're being "persecuted" here, they oughta take a little trip to China or Indonesia.

Possibly. Probably, even. But I think there's also the possibility that the Ba'athists or Al Qaeda are using religion to motivate their operators. Neither organization is about Islam. The more I learn about Islam, the more I'm convinced of this. Terrorism is about power, not idealism.

But which religion? If it is about religion, it ain't Islam.

It might be to get the Christians out of their "holy land", but if that's the goal, escalating the war is a poor way to go about it.

Agree wholeheartedly. IMO, the way to avoid that is to remain focused on freedom and democracy. Actually, I'm not sure we could pull off any other image anyway.

To a certain degree, yes, but I really don't think it's that cut and dried in the big picture. I think at some level, in some circles, there are puppetmasters pulling the strings of the innocent and using false religious doctrines to do it. I don't think they have as much interest in the spread of Islam as they do their own power and influence (much like the Pharisees of old, and the Christian church of the Crusades).

Sure. Once you start using religion as a mechanism to gain power, world domination is really the only successful end.

Agreed. Bibles and Qur'ans aren't the problem, but they should be part of the solution. You immasculate a religious radical by taking away his religion and revealing him for what he really is. Truth is a very powerful weapon.

I think there's a balance somewhere that can be reached, but I do agree that too many preachers are trying to incite a cultural revolution they cannot win (IMO). I don't know what that balance looks like, but I know we haven't achieved it yet.
