Jaguars | Del Rio After Ravens - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
20:53 PT: The Baltimore Sun reports Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick confirmed Friday newly hired Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio has requested permission to talk to two Ravens assistant coaches about becoming the Jaguars defensive coordinator. According to a league source, Del Rio is seeking to speak with Ravens LBs coach Mike Smith and defensive line coach Rex Ryan. It appears that Smith has the inside track for the job. If Smith leaves, there is speculation that Mike Singletary could become the Ravens LBs coach.

not exactly a ringing endorsment for Mills. Seems like Del Rio would consider bringing him along. But I guess he's just more comfortable with Smith.

Remember, Sam Mills has more ties to the Panthers organization than any head coach here, whether Fox, Siefert, Del Rio, et cetera. I expect that the DC is Mills if he wants it.

Billick traditionally still lets his coaches leave if they can get coordinator spots. Most don't.

Dang, Singletary would be a great hire, if we could pull it off. He'd bring both sides we're looking for -- the gifted teacher with a set of brass ones...

I was expecting Singletary to be Baylor's HC when Steele got the hook, but that didn't pan out. He was considered/interviewed for the position.
One thing a guy like MS would bring is a great combo of intensity, smarts and game experience. He'll get a shot as a coach somewhere soon.
I beleive he has a son who is a SR in HS this year or next who is supposed to be every bit the ball player his pops was. Could see MS start out in the college ranks coachung Jr.?

Ravens | More On Singletary - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
5:30 PT: Updating earlier stories, the Houston Chronicle reports the Baltimore Ravens are set to announce later Thursday former NFL LB Mike Singletary has accepted a three-year contract as linebackers coach for the Ravens. Singletary had talked to Chicago Bears coach Dick Jauron twice about coaching in Chicago, but Jauron did not want to replace his current LBs coach, Gary Moeller, according to Bears spokesperson Scott Hagel.
