This is the first time I've seen any outlet acknowledge that K's mini sabbatical in 95 was for any reason other than back pain.

Also interesting how Coach K got the losses scratched from his record, yet Pete Gaudet is never listed in Duke's media guide as ever having been a head coach.

But he is a leader, so I guess its ok. His life is about more than just playing games. Thats why his card is American Express.

I wonder why all those losses under Doherty were never put on Dean Smith's record?

My guess would be that Dean was retired and Doherty was actually listed as the coach of record.

When there is an interim coach, the NCAA asks the school, before a game is played under the interim coach, whose record the games will go on. Duke NEVER petitioned the NCAA in any way shape or form regarding K's record. The exact same thing happened when Majerus was out.

Pete Gaudet was an interim coach, never a head coach.

If dook only paid Gaudet 16 grand to go through that season, that's disgraceful.

Dook could've paid him one the backside with some type of bonus.

And that would have been an NCAA violation. Why don't you try not opening your mouth unless you have something productive to add next time?

Besides, when the NCAA lost their case, all the coaches were awarded back pay.

I have never understood the fixation the tarhole fans have with the 95 season. Why should coach K have losses on his record that took place when he was out? It is not really a big issue anyway. He would still have a great win loss percentage with those games on his record.

Those who think coach K faked illness due to his team being bad are just stupid. That team was 9-3 when he went out and he had some decent players. If he stays healthy that team wins twenty games.
