all these ID vs evolution threads got me thinking... how about folks describe what they mean by intelligent design. it seems to mean different things to different people.

sly or vp or whoever- what exactly do you want taught by schools in regards to intelligent design? how does it "fix" darwinian natural selection as a driving force for evolution? is it compatible with evolution? does natural selection have any role in evolution?

i'm going away for a week, so hopefully this'll have a lot of good replies by the time i'm back...

    Follow up question:

Can the ID crowd please explain how ID supports/establishes the christian God as the master planner, versus all the others, be they Allah or Odin or whatever?

    'preesh.

From everything that I have seen, the Jewish/Christian events in the Bible most closely resemble what we know about life/evolution.

How about hard evidence? You can insert every single believer of every religion in place of you and the Bible.

Edit, you also didn't answer the question. You sidestepped it.

Um, yeah, because evolutionary biology has always depended on the idea of some guy with a big boat saving two of every animal.

There has been very little in the Bible that is not supported by hard evidence.

I am not sidestepping the question at all. If ohter religions have creation scenarios that jibe with science, then they should be explored as well.

At least that boat floated. Evolutionary biology has so many holes in it it would sink like a rock.

What I mean by ID is that I don't think evolution/adaption alone can explain how life started much less how it got to where it is today. I think there was an intelligent outside source that we cannot comprehend that played a part in it.

As far as HardHarry's question is concerned. ID doesn't claim that this was the Christian God. That is just my personal belief, but even if you showed me the bones of Jesus today, I would still think that a creator was involved in our being here.

I would be happy if schools simply taught the many glaring holes in the evolutionary theory. What it cannot explain, what there is no proof for, and immediately stopping using evidence that is in question or has outright been proved false.

So, it has a gaping hole in it too. Quite a bit bigger than transitional fossils.

That's the IPU test put to ID. You might as well say that Odin is the ID'er.

ecilam would probably think that idea is cool as all get out.
