I never liked George when he was HC in SanFran. And it wasn't because I disliked the 49ers either. I was a Rams fan then, and we were always getting beat by them. I respected Bill Walsh, tho because I believe he was a great O mind using talented guys to implement a new cool explosive passing system, and either had or got the talent to play it.

I always felt GS was made HC of a team stocked full of talent, with no salary cap or parity, with a system (offensively) which was a work of art implemented by Bill Walsh (something new and different like the rams O for the last coupla years). And don't forget, Mr. Walsh was making personel decisions for GS when he became the HC, as well as C.Policy who was an extension of Walsh. Walsh knew talent, was very creative like Martz has been for a few years as far as offense. Neither teams have had a great, talented, D when they were (are) offensive powerhouses, yet the O made the D look ok because the other teams were always playing catch-up.
I never felt that GS could adjust to anything. He proved it when Carolina came into the league and beat the (loaded at talent)49ers their first season, the ensuing yr after they won a SB, then beat them twice and won the division out from under them the next yr in 96. We beat them more because they couldn't adjust to our D then, and our O was just good enough to win games. When we came into the league, Capers knew our D would have to shut them down, being that they were the elite in our division, and he planned to beat them more than anyone with his "3-4 zone -blitz different scheme which the 49ers rarely had faced previously not having to play Pittsburg much if at all.

GS never adjusted their O to keep our Defense from beating them and he held to his system that was matched for their personel (or the other way around, really), and we took them out because he failed to adjust then. The following year he couldn't take losing, and couldn't adjust since other teams were beating them because they figured out how (kinda like what Martz's problem is now- failing to change and adjust, maybe out of shear arrogence). And he "retired". I will admit, even tho I didn't like him, I was kinda excited to have him replaced Capers (who I actually liked a great deal but as a fan, didn't like losing so bad in 97), because I thought GS would help make us a more explosive Offensive team. He didn't and couldn't, or wouldn't, adjust to our players and other teams play. It was always his way, and that was that, beating you his way, or just losing (just like Martz in the last three real games he's played).

To me, I feel like GS was a decent DC when he was with SanFran, but that's all he had to be. He was never a player's coach, and that has been documented. I feel like, as others have also, that he was just as 'aloof' with SanFran as HC, just letting his talent play football using Walsh's system, while racking up wins and having a great winning percentage.
You guys who are trash-talking about JR "ruining HCs" this or that = BE GLAD WE DON'T HAVE AL DAVIS, DANNY-BOY SNYDER, or everyone's favorite JERRY JONES for an owner.

Mag and Sandy: I respect your ideas and thoughts, but you guys argue about the stupidest, mean nothing things, just like 2 little kids. It's getting old hearing you guys "jockying for position" on a message board where it means nothing. We are hear to post opinions about the Panthers and football, not argue hypothetical BS.
Thank you for your time and opinions. This is mine regarding GS. It's neither right or wrong so much as an OPINION. Some will agree or dissagree, but I'm not gonna argue the "validity" of it, it is just my thoughts and that's that. If you think I'm a dumbass kid or something and I'm totally flat out wrong, you would be wrong as well, as I'm 41 and have been watching and playing football since before you guys got you first hard-on. That doesnt mean I'm more right or wrong, but I'm not a dumbass. Those who think so, I couldn't give a flying rats ass. Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one, some just stink more than others- and you don't have to acknowledge so much, as others can tell which one's stink without being told.

    OK, my rant is over.

GO PANTHERS, please win us another!!!

What he said. We'd have Quincy Carter or Jeff George as our QB.

really enjoy your posts. like Larry, i've got ADS so it's tuff to stay with you, but i made it . . . barely.

that's kind what i thought at first but after awhile it just becomes amusing. plus it makes me feel better when they get down in the gutters after i have gone off on someone. i say, let 'em have their fun. you can always stop reading the thread.

damn. you're just gonna be no fun at all.

for the record, i felt bad about going off on T. i was just funning with him at first but he got my goat when he started calling me an idiot and all. there's lots of times i have thought about as much of others when then have started in on me, but i am usually able to bite my tongue as far as the name calling goes. and i have noticed that most folks here do the same though the implication is often loud and clear. i think most of it is all in good sport.

damn, am i the only person on this board willing to admit i'm a dumbass? don't say it, mag.

course now if you start ragging on Fox and the Panthers and don't tow the line, it's gonna be open season as far as i'm concerned. ;)

Just so you'll know, I don't think either one of us is "jockying for position". We both know what our roles are in regards to football talk. If you want to know the ends and outs of all the small details he's your guy. (Along with Piper and a few others) If you like hearing different people's thoughts on a macro level, I may be one of 10 or so regulars that voice that may or may not be worth reading.

No MvM may see it a little differently, but its just some black hole we get caught in. I can usually look back and say damn that was stupid, why did I go there with him. He may or may not feel the same.

End of story, I'm not trying to jocky for a position.
