I couldn't have been more excited to see Seifert come. I was a fan long before, and guess I always will be.
I think the coaching situations (Haskell, Musgrave) and the constant philosophy changes really broke him, and it showed. He wasn't the same coach in 01. George's having a good time now. :D

    I didn't doubt he would.
But obviously, right now, we're better off. Look at 1999. We weren't as talented, we had maybe three defenders worth mentioning and two of those are gone. Luckily, one grew from that team as well. But we were able to get the coaches we wanted, the players we got fit into the scheme. We had guys who would play their asses off. We had weaknesses, and along the way we'd get a little better at some, a little worse at some, and get too big for our britches. Some coaches went, some came, JR decided every year that something else had to be done. Every year it was time to do this, no wait, do this. No, wait, you gotta do this instead.

Are we headed in that direction now?

is that a little passion i'm seeing there? maybe he was just trying to coach the wrong game.

    Is that lawn bowling?

I bet he only puts the ball on the ground about once in every dozen tries... :D

laugh all you want. He'll probably still get into the hall, with no mention of the Panthers because our owner wanted to dick with how we go about building our team every year.

While you can certainly pose a good argument for why he may not have been a success. The bottom line is he was an embarassament to all coaches in all sports last year. He should not have even showed up on Sunday... It was the worst display of a head coach I have ever seen in professional football.

Not that I would expect any less but y'all are missing the point. I'm just touching on the Seifert thing and here y'all are just looking to prove Pavlov right.

How long before JR's eagerness gets us again?
hell, he was so eager to have control he pushed Walter Payton out despite the league's hope and Walter's creative ability (the NFL had already set us up with McCormack, and had allocated Joe Mack as a personnel man, but became an assistant GM to Polian for a year and left because no one can get along with Bill). He screwed up with letting good personnel men go so that Junior could be a president instead of a VP in charge of nosepicking.
He was so eager with Capers' success that he mucked it up with overtures to linebackers and ends that wouldn't be worth the money. He was so eager with Seifert's success that he made overtures to anyone with bad knees and a name (remember all the way back to Capers' supposed push for the SB? Greg Lloyd, Greene, and Gilbert were supposed to be the saviors? and then we get suprised by 2000?)

How long before the admittedly impatient Richardson fucks this up? Hell we've ruined two good coaches, two good quarterbacks (going on 3) and God knows how many knees. There's one constant here and the nagging thing in the back of my mind amidst all this success isn't Peete or Fox.

why not let's not dwell and speculate on the negatives for a while? let's be happy with 2-0 and hopeful for 3-0. let's think pleasant thoughts -- like how much i appreciate ya finally changing your avatar.

if we lose this weekend then we can begin speculating on how JR musta started messing with the team again. and when weinke will return. and when Fox will be fired. and who the new coach will be. and if we will go 2-14 this season. and if we will still have a shot at leftwich, or whatever his name is.

    till then. be happy.
