My parents are letting me buy a guitar for b-day/Christmas. I'd like to have a nice classical, but there's a guitar maker in York that intrigues me as well.

I'm not necessarily looking for anything new (I've almost pulled the trigger twice at Gruhn's Guitars in Nashville), and I want acoustic only. No acoustic/electrics.

I haven't been to Mars lately, and the place on Stonewall is gone now (why can't I remember the name?). Where in the Charlotte-area are good places to go for acoustics?

Shit. No acoustic electrics? That's the only thing I ever want to play, a big slim-bodied archtop.

Do you want a guitar for beginners?

    A classic guitar?

I know someone who was practicly born with a guitar in his hands and can answer guitar questions.

I've played for half my life, but I don't have a classical.

    mathmajors,
Meaning no disrespect to the posters on this board, but most of these good people are musically illiterate; and, not promoting any type of music, per se, I'd go to the "ask the musicians tread" at
the JazzCorner.com board with my question. You'd probably get some educated recommendations.

Anyhow, I'm not a guitar player but I do know that most name brands make a strictly accoustical guitar; Ibanez comes to mind.

Thanks, jazz. I'm familiar with many brands. It's dealers I'm looking for. I'm hoping there's more than what's in the Yellow Pages.

coleman music in china grove normally has some good shit. He'll occasionally get a nice classical in. My mother has a Gibson classical that I learned on. It's 30 years old and still sound terrific. I prefer the Takamine classicals. The Takamine Hirade is way expensive, so I'd go for a lower model. Many professionals perfer the Takamine classicals. I don't have one yet, just two Takamine acoustic/electrics, but the classical is next on my list. Holler at Mullis Music in K-Town too, they may have some.

Thanks, QC. My dad has a Tak classical that my mom got him from that place on Stonewall (that I absolutely cannot friggin' remember the name of); I think they gave it to her at a really good price.

I almost bought a '68 Gibson classical from Gruhn's in Nashville. Smooth.
